What is Rextrake and how does it work?
Rextrake is a platform for outdoor and mountain adventures. Record your tracks (hiking, trail, MTB, ski touring, climbing, caving), discover routes and caves shared by the community, compare your times on segments, and buy or sell second-hand gear in the marketplace. Everything in one place, in the field and at home.
Is my position private?
Yes, by default. A track is private until you publish it; live position sharing is off by default and, when enabled, can be anonymous. You can also set privacy zones (for example around home) that are automatically hidden on published tracks.
How do I record or import a track?
You can record a track live from the mobile app, or import a GPX file from any device or app (Garmin, Suunto, Strava, Komoot). The track enters your logbook with distance, elevation gain, duration and route on the map; you decide whether to keep it private or publish it.
How are sensitive caves protected?
Caves flagged as protected never expose their exact coordinates in public listings or search. It is a deliberate choice to protect fragile environments and sensitive sites: only authorized access, decided by whoever manages the cave, can reveal the precise location.
How do routes and caves work?
Routes and caves are shared by the community: you can explore them on the map, read the details, and use them to plan an outing. Caves marked as protected (fragile or sensitive sites) never reveal their exact location publicly — access is limited to protect them.
Are marketplace sellers reliable?
Every seller has a public history — completed sales, ratings and reviews. Protected payment (escrow) releases the money only after the item is received, and if there is a problem you can open a dispute. This way both buyer and seller are protected.
What are segments and leaderboards?
A segment is a stretch of trail (a climb, a descent) where your times are compared with those of other athletes. When you publish a track that crosses a segment, the system records your effort and updates the leaderboard, with the best time at the top (KOM/QOM).
How does the second-hand gear marketplace work?
You can buy and sell used outdoor gear — backpacks, boots, tents, climbing and ski equipment. The buyer pays into a protected balance (escrow): the money is released to the seller only after the item is shipped and received. New gear from partner shops is also listed.
Are the safety features useful in the field?
Yes. You can send an SOS with your position to your emergency contacts, do a check-in to signal you are safe, and report a hazard on a route (rockfall, closed trail, dangerous conditions) so others see it. Your live position is shared only if you choose to, and can be anonymous.
What are clubs?
Clubs bring together athletes, CAI sections, alpine guides and outdoor groups. Inside a club you organize events and outings, share routes and communicate with members. Anyone can create a club or join an existing one.
Can I buy directly on Rextrake?
Yes, for second-hand gear the whole purchase happens on Rextrake with protected payment (escrow) and tracked shipping. For new gear from partner shops you may be redirected to the shop to complete the order.
